Masanao Kawajiri Directs Cherry and Virgin 'Nervous Romance Animation' Film for 2022 Debut


On Tuesday, director Masanao Kawajiri (Stella Women's Academy, High School Division Class C3) announced that he is working on a new film called Cherry and Virgin, which will be released in Japan in 2022. A "nervous romance animation" is how the film is portrayed.


          Cherry and Virgin's 'Nervous Romance Animation' Film Will Debut in 2022, Directed by Masanao Kawajiri. Toei Video is responsible for the film's production and distribution. The film will star Takashi Okado and Yaeko Kiyose.

Synopsis: The core characters in the movie are Ryo and Ami. Ryo is a 32-year-old erotic manga artist who isn't used to being around women. Ami, a 28-year-old fujoshi, has a hostile attitude toward men. The plot follows their relationship after they meet by chance. The film will feature rotoscoping, manga, and live-action elements.

Kawajiri previously directed "Aru Nihon no Egaki Shnen" ("A Japanese Boy Who Draws"), a hybrid short that mixed animation, live-action, and manga panels. The 20-minute short won an Excellence Award at the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2020.
