Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Moto Kano Datta Step-Sibling Romcom Novel Gets an Anime Adaptation

On Wednesday, Kadokawa announced that an anime adaptation of Kysuke Kamishiro and Takayaki's light novel series Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Moto Kano Datta (My Stepmother's Daughter Was My Ex-Girlfriend) is in the works. Kadokawa did not reveal the anime's format or release date.

The novels revolve around Mizuto and Yume, a former couple who had a relationship in junior high school but grew increasingly irritated with each other and used their graduation to break up. But on the day before starting high school, the two reunite in the most unexpected way: their parents announce their marriage, and Mizuto and Yume are now step-siblings. To prioritise their parents' relationship, the two promise not to play with each other, establishing a rule in which "the first one to get aroused" loses.

Kamishiro began serialising the story on the Kakuyomu website in August 2017, and the most recent chapter was posted on February 6 of this year. Beginning in December 2018, Kadokawa began publishing the storey in print volumes with illustrations by Takayaki (Arifureta - From Commonplace to World's Strongest). Kadokawa released the sixth volume on February 1, and the seventh volume will be released on July 30.

In December 2019, Rei Kusakabe released a manga adaptation of the novels on Kadokawa's ComicWalker website. On May 8, Kadokawa released the third volume of the manga.
