Summer Ghost Anime's New PV Reveals Additional Cast and Release Date
On Thursday, the trailer for illustrator loundraw's directorial debut, "Summer Ghost" (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Josee, The Tiger and the Fish, Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-), was released. The trailer introduces the short's principal voice cast member, as well as additional cast members and a November 12 theatrical release date.
Tomoya Sugisaki, played by Chiaki Kobayashi, is the main character.
Loundraw created the original character designs in addition to directing, and Flat Studio, which he founded in 2019, is animating. The screenplay was written by Hirotaka Adachi, also known as Otsuichi (Stare flick, Goth, Calling You, Zoo), and the soundtrack features globally renowned pianist Akira Kosemura and others. Avex Pictures distributes the film, which is planned and produced by Flagship Line.
The story of the short evolved from a single illustration drawn by loundraw. High school students Tomoya, Aoi, and Ry met online. An urban legend claims that when fireworks are set off, a "summer ghost," a spirit girl, arrives.
Tomoya will never be able to live the life he imagined for himself. Aoi is struggling to find her place in the world. Ry's once bright future has been snatched away from him. Each person has a different reason for wanting to meet the summer ghost. Where will each of their emotions take them on a summer night when life and death collide?
The video is part of Project Common, a multimedia initiative aimed at "expressing the true loundraw." Last summer, the illustrator stated, "I want to find my unchanging self at all times. This project is a test of my ability to find the true 'loundraw' with myself and everyone else." The English text was included on the project's website "Is it true or false? He thinks and draws in a certain way. All of these become 'one.'"
loundraw created the original character designs for the television anime series Tsuki ga Kirei, as well as the original character designs and cover illustration for Yoru Sumino's novel I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. His original character designs were used in an anime film based on his novel.
He also designed the characters for an animated promotional video based on Yusuke Yamada's novel Boku wa Robot Goshi no Kimi ni Koi wo Suru (I fall in love with you through a robot). The novel will also be adapted into a full-length animated film.
