Blue Lock Anime


Blue Lock, a soccer manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Ysuke Nomura, is inspiring a television anime that will premiere in 2022.

Anime cast includes:
  • Kazuki Ura as Yoichi Isagi
  • Tasuku Kaito as Meguru Bachira
  • Yūki Ono as Rensuke Kunigami
  • Sōma Saitō as Hyōma Chigiri
Tetsuaki Watanabe (Powerful Pro Yaky Powerful Kk-hen) is directing the anime for 8-Bit, with Shunsuke Ishikawa serving as an assistant director. Taku Kishimoto (Silver Spoon) is in charge of supervising and writing the series scripts, while Muneyuki Kaneshiro is in charge of the story. The concept advisor is Yutaka Uemura.



Masaru Shind is the main character designer and chief animation director, with Kenji Tanabe and Kento Toya also serving in that capacity. Hisashi Tojima is the chief action director, and Hiromi Sakamoto is an action director. The music is being composed by Jun Murayama.

Kodansha describe the story:

The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match...and to do so, they've gathered 300 of Japan's best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team...and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?

In August 2018, Kaneshiro and Nomura published the manga in Weekly Shnen Magazine. On Tuesday, Kodansha released the manga's 15th compiled book volume. Earlier this year, the manga won the Best Shnen Manga award at Kodansha's 45th annual Manga Awards.

Kaneshiro previously collaborated with artist Akeji Fujimura on the manga Kami-sama no Iu Toori (As the Gods Will) in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shnen Magazine from 2011 to 2012. In 2013, Kodansha's Weekly Shnen Magazine published a sequel series titled As the Gods Will: The Second Series (Kami-sama no Iu Toori Ni). The manga came to an end in December of 2016. Crunchyroll released chapters online concurrently with the Japanese release, and Kodansha Comics released the 21 compiled volumes digitally.
