SLAM DUNK Anime's New Movie Announced with PV, Schedule for Fall 2022

SLAM DUNK

It has been decided that the new anime movie (title undecided) of the popular manga "SLAM DUNK" will be released in the fall of 2022. It was announced on the official YouTube channel of Toei Animation. Staff information is also disclosed on the PV, and the director and screenwriter is in charge of the original author Takehiko Inoue.

"Slam Dunk" is based on the basketball manga serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from the 42nd issue of 1990 to the 27th issue of 1996. Hanamichi Sakuragi, the main character of a basketball beginner who joined the Shohoku High School Basketball Club, is depicted as rapidly developing his talent in a collision with his teammate Kaede Rukawa and a match with a strong school.

The depictions of the game and the characters who are enthusiastic about basketball have struck a chord with readers and received overwhelming support, and the cumulative circulation of the series in Japan has exceeded 120 million. From that influence, boys and girls who start playing basketball appear one after another and become a social phenomenon. "Weekly Shonen Jump" reached the unprecedented maximum circulation of 6.53 million copies, and in the 1995 New Year 3 and 4 merged issue, all pages were in full color. From 1993 to 1996, all 101 episodes of TV animation were broadcast, and several theatrical animations have been released.

In 2020, the 30th anniversary of the serialization will be celebrated, and in January 2021, the original author Takehiko Inoue made a surprise announcement on his Twitter account, "It will be a [Slam Dunk] movie! #Slamdunkmovie", which surprised fans. The TV animation ended when the Shohoku High School Basketball Club headed for the Inter-High School Championships.
